After the move

I moved to a new shop.  It put this project on the back burner but it’s in the new shop ready to go.
Frame gone through.   All holes tapped and cleaned for reassembly.

Working on seat.   Cutting out rusted panels and replacing with new metal.   Along with emblems.

Engine frees and broke down to be overhauled.

Ready for mock up reassembly.

Fender Rebuild

I dropped off the original fenders at LJ customs (618)-363-2247 in Germantown IL.  Luke completely built new ones from scratch. I couldn't be happier with how they turned out.

Transmission rebuild

Here is the original 1947 Hobart Transmission, with a bad gear.  By casting numbers and the help of ebay, it appears to be the same as a 1940's plymouth car.
The input shaft has a different spline than the plymouth, hopefully it will interchange.
After years of power hopping the case couldn't handle the abuse.  Conveniently there was a welder close by.

The bad gear
The second gear from the left has shelled out almost all of its teeth.

Here is my first attempt at using a electrolysis tank,  after a night of soaking the rust has been completely dissolved

Phase 1 (Tear down)

4-1-15
It looks rough but at least all the hoods are straight.  The only thing that would be nice is if the didn't use the one of a kind fenders as battering rams.
With the help of my best worker James, we started to clean out mounds of sand, mouse nest and the occasional pile of coon S**T  to get the old girl ready to come back to her former glory.

The Beginning

This is a 1947 Hobart Weldmobile.  It was used in a local mining operation, until the mid 80's when its transmission went out.  So long story short this thing has been sitting longer than I've been alive.
